WHAT IS THE CO2 "DO" LASER EYELID PROCEDURE?

The CO2 "DOT" Laser Eyelid Surgery procedure uses a continuous wave CO2 laser to remove unwanted bulging fat pockets of the eyelid. This modified approach to traditional eyelid surgery results in less bruising, swelling and is thought to be an overall "safer" procedure. The nice thing about using the Fractional CO2 "DOT" laser in that this device can simultaneously resurface the skin of the eyelid, face, and neck to give a superior cosmetic result. Our patients in Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra Beach and Fleming Island have been giving us rave reviews for our laser approach.

HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT TAKE?

The CO2 "DOT" Laser Eyelid Surgery procedure takes anywhere from 1 to 2 hours hour depending on the area(s) that are treated, eg., number of eyelids treated?, is skin resurfacing being carried out? If so, where?

WHAT IS THE PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CO2 "DOT" LASER EYELID SURGERY PROCEDURE?

Typically, we ask that you discontinue the use of retinoic acid products and glycolic acid products for 3 to 4 days before your CO2 "DOT" Laser Eyelid Surgery procedure. In addition, we will prescribe an antibiotic and possibly antiviral medication which is started 1 day before your procedure. Arnica may be prescribed to reduce bruising. It is also wise to stay out of intense sunlight for up to 1 week prior to your treatment. A preop eye exam and history and physical is mandatory prior to having the CO2 "DOT" Laser Eyelid Surgery procedure.

HOW MUCH DISCOMFORT CAN I EXPECT?

There is minimal if any discomfort with this treatment. Topical, local and sometimes IV sedation is all that is used. If you are extremely anxious, we can prescribe and anti-anxiety medication regimen which can be taken 1 to 2 hours before your procedure. Someone must drive you to and from the office and stay with you for 24 hours after your procedure has been performed. Pain usually is described as moderate for the first 24 hours. This can easily be controlled with cool compresses and pain medications which we will prescribe for you.

WHAT WILL BE MY DOWNTIME?

The advanced technology of the Fractional CO2 "DOT" laser allows you to recover quickly. There can be some minor swelling and redness which quickly disappears within a matter of days. Redness can persist for up to one week. Sutures absorb by one to two weeks. Our providers will usually see you 24 hours after surgery and 1 week after surgery to make sure that you are healing correctly.

WHAT ABOUT THE POST OP CARE?

We recommend a very nice post surgical kit as well as a post laser skin care system. It is important to stay out of intense sun for at least one week after your treatment. We also recommend that you initiate a low dose corticosteroid medication to minimize swelling which occurs in most instances. Concealing makeup, e.g. Jane Iredale™, can be used to minimize redness. Again, the beauty of the Fractional CO2 "DOT" laser is that one is pretty much healed by 7 days postop.

HOW LONG WILL THE BENEFITS OF THE PROCEDURE LAST?

CO2 "DOT" Laser Eyelid Surgery benefits can be seen for several years. In our experience, patient satisfaction has been extremely high for this procedure. Sometimes fractional CO2 resurfacing may need to be repeated in two months if wrinkles are deeper. Botox Cosmetic™ and filler treatments can also enhance your cosmetic result.
